Nollywood has had a busy 2026, with several Nigerian movies making waves in cinemas and more highly anticipated titles still on the way.
From the box-office success of Call of My Life to new September releases like Properties of the Gods, here are some of the latest Nollywood movies to know about in 2026.
Biggest Nollywood Movie of 2026
Released on May 15, the romantic comedy follows a call-centre agent dealing with heartbreak, love and unexpected changes.
Directed by Dammy Twitch in his feature-film debut, the movie has reportedly grossed over ₦800 million, making it one of the year's biggest Nigerian box-office successes.
Latest Nollywood Movies Released in August
August brought several new Nigerian movies to cinemas.
Sweet 16, released on August 14, is a comedy-drama about a teenager whose birthday plans uncover unexpected family secrets.
Ikenga: The Last Festival followed on August 21. The cultural suspense drama features Pete Edochie and Zubby Michael and has also recorded strong cinema performances.
On August 28, King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos arrived in cinemas. The Yoruba historical epic tells the story of Oba Kosoko and his struggles.
Other August releases include Alahun: The Weaver, Blood Debt and A Father’s Secret.
Meanwhile, The Night of June 7th, which was scheduled for August 28, had its cinema release suspended for further review.
New Nollywood Movies Coming in September
The historical social drama explores the Osu caste system in Igboland, as well as tradition, forbidden love and social exclusion.
The movie features Pete Edochie, Enyinna Nwigwe, Maria Chike Benjamin, Zack Orji and the late Onyeka Onwenu.
One Gidi Night follows on September 11. The neo-noir thriller was written, produced and directed by James Abinibi.
Another major September release is Black Market, scheduled for September 26.
Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay, the film stars Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Omowunmi Dada and Uzor Arukwe.
The movie is also expected to attract attention for its planned premiere at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.
Dear Ajayi Makes History
The Damilola Orimogunje-directed drama premiered at the 2026 Venice Film Festival, becoming the first Nigerian production selected for the Giornate degli Autori (Venice Days) competition.
Set in the 1990s, the film follows two estranged sisters who are forced to care for their mother while dealing with family, identity and hope.
Nollywood Movies Coming Later in 2026
The Nigerian cinema calendar still has major releases ahead.
bara Nla: The Return is scheduled for October 1, while Funke Akindele's The Four: No One Fights Alone is expected on December 11.
The Four features an all-star cast including Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson and Lateef Adedimeji.
